Sónia is a systematic theologian specializing in christology and political theology. She is also a postdoctoral researcher in the Integral Human Development program (DHI) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), where her current research explores the intersection of sacramental theology and restorative justice methodologies. She aims to rethink and develop a model of reparation and reconciliation relevant to both the ecclesial community and society at large.
Sónia completed her PhD in Systematics at the Department of Theology at Fordham University (New York) in February 2025. Her dissertation provides a constructive analysis of interpersonal forgiveness through the lens of a theology of creation, examining its implications for the public sphere.
In addition to her academic work, Sónia has a background in law, having worked as a lawyer in Portugal; she has also volunteered with the NGO Leigos para o Desenvolvimento in Angola. She is an active member of The Grail, an international and ecumenical movement of lay women founded in 1921.
