Alfredo Brant (Brazil-Italy, 1983) is a photographer, artist, and researcher at the Center for Studies in Communication and Culture (Universidade Católica Portuguesa). As part of his doctorate, he explored the production of knowledge through photographic practices and decolonial protocols in artistic-educational spaces. Based on the field of visual culture, Alfredo Brant is interested in the notions of affections and politics of images, as well as the articulations between word and image. In his artistic work, he investigates the construction of visual narratives through documentary photography and portraiture.
After completing his Journalism degree at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil, 2005), he moved to France, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Arts/Photography (2007) and a Master's degree in Photography and Contemporary Art (2010), both at Université Paris 8. He was an Erasmus student at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (Italy, 2010) and worked in corporate photography in London (2013). Alfredo developed artistic projects in Canada, India, and France. His work has been presented in photographic exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Italy, and Brazil. He taught at the International Institute of Photography (São Paulo, Brazil, 2018-2019) and at the Senior University of Alcântara (Lisbon, Portugal, 2022-2023), and developed photobook projects in Brazil, having published "Deslocações" in 2019. He has lived and worked in Lisbon since 2019, where he continues to develop authorial works in photography, exploring other formats and media. Following his doctoral research, he develops visual literacy methodologies through workshops and courses.
