A PhD opens opportunities to many forms of development both on a personal and a professional level and for the community at large. As an original piece of research, a PhD thesis is a valid contribution to the progress of knowledge and the advancement of society. A PhD is built on multiple competencies acquired during three or four years of training. Specific expertise and specialized knowledge are part of these competencies as much as transversal skills like project management, ethical guidance, leadership and career development.
