This course provides an introduction to the principles, practices, and benefits of Open Science. It explores how Open Science promotes transparency, accessibility, reproducibility, and collaboration throughout the research process. The course introduces key areas such as Open Access, Research Data Management, and Researcher Profile management, highlighting their relevance to responsible and open research practices.

The course covers general concepts of Open Science, introducing its main principles, objectives, and benefits, as well as its role in promoting transparency, accessibility, reproducibility, and collaboration throughout the research lifecycle. It also addresses good practices in scholarly publishing, with a focus on Open Access and responsible publishing practices. Good practices in Research Data Management are explored, including the organisation, documentation, sharing, preservation, and application of FAIR principles to research data. Finally, the course introduces good practices in researcher profile management, including the use of researcher identifiers such as ORCID and the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information in institutional research information systems.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the main principles, objectives, and benefits of Open Science;
- Recognise the main principles and requirements associated with Open Access, Open Research Data, and FAIR data;
- Identify tools and resources that support the adoption of Open Science practices;
- Recognise opportunities and challenges associated with implementing Open Science in their own research context;
- Manage and optimize researcher profiles on platforms such as ORCID to enhance visibility and track research outputs;
