As President of the Council for Doctoral Education (USA-CDE), Vice-Rector Peter Hanenberg will participate in the 2025 Strategic Leaders Global Summit on “Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies to Support Student Success” (28-30 September 2025, Québec, Canada). Artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies have a fundamental impact on education, including doctoral training. The 2025 Global Summit will explore the potential applications of AI and other emerging technologies to support postgraduate education. Recently, Peter Hanenberg also published a reflection on the challenges of supervision in the context of doctoral training. Doctoral supervision has often followed an inconsistent path, frequently due to a lack of clear criteria regarding the role that supervisors should take on.
The article proposes a deeper reflection on the concept of guidance and a sharing of good practices.
