Lucie Calléja, Postdoctoral Fellow in Integral Human Development (DHI-CADOS), has published The "Peace Huts": Empowering Women in Liberia's Peacebuilding Efforts (2026), based on her doctoral research conducted at IEP-Católica in collaboration with DHI-CADOS.
The book explores the transformative role of Liberian women in peacebuilding and conflict resolution through the "Peace Huts", a grassroots initiative that has fostered dialogue, social cohesion, and women's participation in community decision-making. Based on fieldwork carried out within Liberian communities, the research provides insights into gender, leadership, resilience, and the conditions for sustainable peace.
This publication contributes to international debates on Women, Peace, and Security, highlighting the importance of more inclusive and participatory peacebuilding frameworks.
Published by Palgrave Macmillan, the book is available in open access and can be downloaded free of charge by anyone interested in peacebuilding and gender equality worldwide. A print edition is also available.
