The First Time Researchers’ Academy has officially begun at the Católica campus in Lisbon, convening PhD candidates for an intensive programme dedicated to the development of transversal skills and foundational research competencies. Strengthening these abilities—applicable across all disciplinary fields—is crucial for nurturing the next generation of scholars as they progress in their academic and professional paths.

This inaugural edition, promoted by CADOS in collaboration with universities from the T4EU Alliance, opened with the session “Ethics and Scientific Integrity: Impact of AI”, followed by a networking moment designed to encourage early exchanges among participants. Throughout the week, attendees will engage in a diverse set of activities, discussions, and workshops.

With participants representing more than ten international partner institutions, the Academy creates an intellectually stimulating setting that promotes dialogue, cooperation, and mutual learning. As noted by Professor Peter Hanenberg, Católica’s Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Education, the opportunity for sustained interaction offered by this initiative “has the potential to shape the research of the future, making it more transversal, more cooperative, and better equipped to address emerging scientific challenges.”
