1st CADOS Plenary Meeting | April 14, 2023

Wednesday, April 5, 2023 - 18:24

The first CADOS Plenary Meeting aims at bringing together doctoral students from all fields at Universidade Católica Portuguesa to discuss current issues of doctoral training. This first meeting is dedicated to the process of institutional self-evaluation allowing us to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats at the intersection of research and doctoral education. The doctoral candidates are invited to discuss the challenges and needs, that UCP and CADODS are called to address.

Program

3-3:30pm: Welcome by Peter Hanenberg, CADOS Director

3:30-5pm: Breakout sessions | Participants will be divided into three groups. All groups will discuss three topics in successive breakout sessions. They are dedicated to the following topics:

Breakout Session 1 | "Why we are strong: UCP as a Research University"  Research at UCP is developed in 15 Research Units. We would like to learn from each other how doctoral education is integrated into research programs. From here we might identify the areas in which we think that UCP is strong and successful in its research work. Exiting areas of doctoral and postdoctoral research or examples of outstanding results may be presented as well as the significant impact of our research on society.  Moderated by Raquel Trindade
Breakout Session 2 | "What we need to develop further" During your work as early-stage researchers, you might have experienced limitations and challenges that should be addressed. We want to map those issues which we have to develop further – concerning your needs in and for research, innovation strategies, and knowledge transfer, maybe also reflecting on employment perspective within and beyond Academia.   Moderated by Ana Fabíola Maurício
Breakout Session 3 | "What you are expecting from CADOS" CADOS offers a wide range of training opportunities. We would like to know which areas are already sufficiently covered by CADOS and which might have to be developed in the future. How much would you like CADOS to support your course as early-stage researchers? What can CADOS do for you?  Moderated by Patrícia Anzini

 5-5:30pm: Coffee break

5:30-6:30pm: Outcomes from the breakout sessions, joint discussion, and closing remarks.
